I think mike Read's project is now for dab or maybe fm?
I was thinking that maybe Kbc or Big l could add dutch dj's to their own programs so they would get some dutch audience? |

Big L now has a presented Breakfast Show from 8am to 10am Mon to Fri hosted by a guy called Phil Troll from London. The music selection is excellent with lots of 3's in a row which make quite a change. Downside is that it is unfortunately V/T (I understand the guy also has another day job so can't be live and is also visually handicapped) however as such it is for me a little bland with no topical info etc. Still if you just like good music with a presenter at breakfast its ok.
Nice to see Big L giving the guy a slot though.
(This morning FOBL is down & the Big L AAC 128kps keeps dropping out.)
Just been out in the car & 1395 is quite strong but the mod is also dropping out. _________________ David

I listened today also, it was good to hear a voice between tracks but it lacked any sort of atmosphere, the music as usual on Big L is great.
I guess all the Big L crew will love it, but I remember the furore when Adrian John had the cheek to v/t a couple of programmes on the professional Big L., how times change.
To be honest I find Big L rather a puzzle ,is it an overnight European or an english station ?.
It seems to have no real identity and the signal is hell in south essex, the website out of date, nothing changes but at least its a great option for the internet. |

Martin I have to admit I am somewhat confused about the daytime output. It says sponsored by KBC and sometimes overnight presenters are on during the day & sometimes overnight shows are repeated during the day. Obviously more daytime programmes are welcomed but it is rather confusing as presenters seem to turn up unexpected?
As far as I can see the official Big L site is out of date as ever which is nothing new. Eric's new site http://www.1395.eu/index.php?dir= does provide up to date info. _________________ David

BIG L NOT ON 1395 29 AUGUST 2010
Just heard on Big L that they will not be on 1395 this Bank Holiday Sunday. Whether someone else is hiring the channel or its down for maintenence has not been made clear. _________________ David

They really seem to have the knack of how not to build up an audience, either programmes go from playout to a really good live show without notice or as in this case no station at all.The communication and customer awareness is as bad as ever.
I am probabaly the only person still waiting for One(Total Star) Gold to start broadcasting, how desperate is that. |

This has nothing to do with Britain having a public (Bank) holiday.
In Europe, it's a just a regular Sunday, and in continental Europe on Sundays there are very few truckers on the road. So, the income-generating audience shrinks tremendously. The few truckers who are not back home are mainly in transit on long hauls like Lithuania (lotsa trucks in Lithuania) to Madrid, they're parked up on Dutch laybys and drinking coffee in the service shop, or otherwise not listening to the radio.
Maybe this will be the first Sunday of all coming Sundays when they (BigL) work out that there's little point in broadcasting. A bit like some airlines cancelling flights which don't have "enough" passengers.
Maybe the local kirk in the Dutch Bible Belt, where resides the major sponsor KBC, have complained about Sunday broadcasting. |

Just to clarify 1395 is being hired to this Dutch station on Sunday as a "one off" :-
http://www.extragold.nl/
There are a few ex-offshore names in the line up. You must remember that Eric is really only hiring 1395 from 10pm to 6am although he currently sponsors daytime. It has always been his aim to hire out the daytime hours. It is the nightime audience that Eric is trying to build the daytime isn't as important to him.
However daytime is available for hire by any other radio station as required until a permanent hirer comes forward. Any hiring of course helps pay the bills to keep Big L on the air.
Big L's normal Sunday output will be on the internet only. _________________ David
