In the words of Freddy Archer on Caroline SW in 1981/82.
"Its taking time and it will take more time". (thanks Bob)
And we all know what appeared in the North Sea in August 1983. So keep the faith people. _________________ David

I actually went out to the Mi Amigo on the tender from Scheveningen and was filming it sitting in the midst of Radio Northsea and Veronica a month before it went on air, but no one would have beleived me if there was such a thing as an Internet forum in those days.
However, this is different. |

However anoraks in the know were well aware that the Ross Revenge was being fitted out in Santander months before it sailed & came on air. I was given photos around the end of 1982 if my memory serves me correctly of the then mastless Ross in the harbour. I was well aware when she left Santander. Its the same now we enthusiasts know that OneGold is waiting in the wings and will eventually be leashed on the general radio audience once it is ready to go.
At the moment enough info is in the public domain there is little else that they can actually say.
Proof of the pudding for any proposed radio station is of course hearing it on air. If I had £1000 for every offshore station that was supposed to come on air between 1967 & today I would be a rich man!!!! _________________ David

| I've just realised. It wasn't 1983 at all (the incident I was referring to), it was much earlier than that. Sometime between 1970-73. |

The Mi-Amigo went out to the North Sea in September 1972 posing as an Offshore Radio Museum and was towed in in late December 1972 and thanks to Ronan & Chicago got out again over the 72/73 New Year. There it remained until August 1974 when she sailed home but of course sank in March 1980. _________________ David

It would have been September '72 then, I doubt I'd have taken a holiday in winter. According to Peter Chicago who was on board at the time, they'd told the authorities they were going to be used as an offshore casino, hence needing to be outside territorial waters.
Anyway, enough of that, I wasn't intending to go off-topic.
Incidentally, I didn't post my earlier comment because I wanted to see OneGold fail. If anything, I wish they'd get their flippin' finger out! It just doesn't sound like they will though. |

Yes the facts of 1972 do differ a Casino according to Chicago and Museum according to Gerard Van Dam the Dutch guy who bought the Mi Amigo at auction.
Yes we do digress a little. Like you I wish OneGold would sort out the problems and get on the air if only for tests. _________________ David

Just bits sort of connected with this topic.
Remember Freddy Archer running the Mi Amigo for an event I was part somewhere in Cambridgeshire during March 1977 along with a guy I got to know on a LA Boat Trip, Dave Cane, anyone known what became of him, or is he now known as.........
Radio Caroline, in the dieing days of the MV Mi Amigo, remember on many radio events, during the late 1970's in the company of those that mattered, a group of us questioning what would happen if the Mi Amigo sunk, and as most will remember in the late 1970s and early 80's that was a big talking point. In one of gathering the 'White hair' man I remember was asked, if the boat sunk is it the end, and most of you I guess would know how he answered. The answer being we always find a way around it. That was echoed to our little gathering by Tony too.
To this day, even Big Hellers (me one of them) can only honour the fight to keep Radio Caroline by a strong will to win. _________________ FOR YOUR FREE LATEST

A bit off topic I know but I will answer part of your questions David. Dave Caine (his D-J name) is a mate of mine although I haven't seen him for a while. Dave was on the MiAmigo for a while in 1979 while she was off the air. He used to run the MiAmigo Roadshow and Freddy used to help him. Dave then ran the MiAmigo Roadshow on his own I used to do gigs with him around the Newmarket & Mildenhall area in 1979 & 1980 usually on a Saturday night. Dave Caine gave up the MiAmigo Roadshow some years back and the last I heard was driving taxis around Newmarket.
He was at the Radio Caroline 45 years reunion gig in London along with Ronan, Peter Moore, Roger Day & many other ex-Caroline people & d-j's earlier this year. _________________ David

You mean Albert & Georgina Hood yes I understand they are still around. Went out to the Ross with them but never did the MiAmigo lined it up once but rough seas stopped us getting out of Brightlingsea. _________________ David

Yes who knows we might have even been on the same trip. I never actually got on board the Communicator though as the yanks were being a little protective at the time saying that the boss wouldn't let anyone on board. Mind you on a couple of occassions they were off air and a little embarrased at having a minor fault with no TX engineer on board to fix it. _________________ David
